ummm, can you say custom shop ESP? Yah this guitar is probably in the running for being the most deadly axe ever...in fact it's the god of death and for 20K it just might kill you! On my wild frenzy to research this uniue guitar I came across a blog post on guitar noize about the Masaki Kyomoto Special. Now I'm not so sure I'd like the second guitar but the God of death is one monster axe!

Daily Deadly Axe "Paul Lairat"

As guitar/bass lovers we should always have a keen eye for tradition but there is a reason we have two eyes. The other one should be looking for innovation. Paul Lairat has really taken the bass guitar into the new age with his PL4 design. Top quality woods with a very unique design. Very worthy as DDA eye candy!

Paid in full
Well my ESP Cavalera AX signature guitar has been paid in full. Now it's just a waiting game! I got mine for $1899.99 plus tax so it came to just a little over $2000.00 with the hard shell case. That's not bad even though I got a kiler deal on my white ESP Cavalera signature at $1,500.00 exactly.
The Urban Camo AX started showing up at online stores for pre-order today with an estimated 10 day wait before they are in stock so it looks like mine should arrive in mid March which is right around when ESP said they should be ready for delivery. I'm going to call the regional rep to make sure they are on schedule but as of now I'm paid in full and it's a waiting game.
One final tip though. If you are comfortable with setting a guitar up you can usually save several days if you instruct your sales rep to not hold the guitar for set up. Depending on the rapport you have with your sales rep your axe just might sit in the shop for several days until their set up guy gets around to setting it up for you.
In-store set ups are a joke IMO. A guitar needs time to adjust to the climate in your home and an in-store setup might work great for a month but eventually you'll need to take it back for a proper set up. My newest guitar (the white ESP signature) recieved three set up adjustments before I was happy with it. Learn how to do it yourself and you'll be better off! If you can't change your own strings or tune your own guitar you shouldn't have one. If you cannot maintain your guitar well...it's your money!
Daily Deadly Axe "Jim Martin"

In honor of the upcoming Faith No More reunion tour I've decided to recognize one of the most under rated guitar players of all time. Jim Martin. He was a founding member of Faith No More and when Mike Patton entered the line up the band became more about vocals and antics and less about the punishing guitar Jim should have been known for on albums such as "Angel Dust."
Although Jim left FNM after Angel Dust came out so he could move on to more promising employment in the pumpkin farming business he stands out as a musician that has had a great influence in my playing and is sited in thousands of interviews as an important part of music history.
It's clear that FNM will not reunite in the states (Yet) and no one has committed to the project so it's unlikely if Jim will be a part of the fun but I hope he is and I hope there is a bootleg out there of the show so dedicated fans like me can get their hands on it. Long live FNM and that bass-ass V with the mirrored pickguard!

Daily Deadly Axe " Skull N Bones"

Today's Daily Deadly Axe is from a small company called X-Ray Guitars. Their primary function in life is to copy a guitar made famous by George Lynch. The guitar was created by ESP but I have to say that X-Ray Guitar's version of the Skull guitar is much more detailed then ESPs guitar. It shames me to say that since I'm an ESP fanboy but I'll always admit when someone gets bested and in this case this guitar has done it. The price is a bit high for me for a George Lynch guitar but if Lynch Mob is your thing then check out their E-Bay store and pick this hand made custom axe for your own!

Daily Deadly Axe "Fano"

Today's DDa isn't about a single guitar its about a company called Fano Guitars. They make vintage looking hybrid guitars that borrow a little from different standard shapes. My favorite is the seafoam green Les Paul-Telecaster blend. These guitars are simply cool and ayone who checks out your fano will be realy pleased!

Daily Deadly Axe "multiscale"

For those of you who do not know what a multiscale guitar is you need to research it. In a nut shell it's a guitar with two scales. Bass side is one scale and treble side is another. It makes for an interesting guitar to say the least. One of the originators of the multiscale neck is Ormsby Guitars. Today's DDA is one of the wildest guitars you'll ever see in a standard shape. It's an 8 string multiscale guitar that even sports a partially scallpoed neck. It's wild and not a guitar for a beginner player. I've even included a video of the band Meshuggah messing around with the axe.

Daily Deadly Axe "SRi Candy Blue"

A new shipment of Moser Custom Shop imports has arrived and since he "axed" all of his dealers and started selling direct you can get a great price! Now I'm not trying to sell anyone on these guitars. I personally think you can get a guitar that's just as good in an Agile brand but at these prices Neal has finally become seriously competitive with the import market with quality and pricing. Also, if you are into alternative shapes more than standard run of the mill shapes you'll be really happy with what Neal has to offer.
I love the old school wrap around bridge. I just wish this bid came in a one pickup configuration and I'd be on it. That blue is pretty early BCR looking. As of this post this Moser SRi Candy blue guitar is in-stock.

Daily Deadly Axe "Jackson Warrior"

I absolutely love air brushed guitars that look like old battle ships and planes. This one doesn't disappoint! It's a Jackson Warrior. In case you've never played one, they are fun to play and balanced very well given the fact they are pointy guitars. Those Seymour Duncan pickups are ready to burn. This is a seriously deadly axe!
What the hell is happening?

Okay, we've all been exposed to rock bands blending hip hop and rap into their music. For a while all you could hear on the radio was this hybrid blend of genres. Aerosmith did it in the early 90's and many credit the song with Run DMC as their ticket back to the top.
What hasn't been so common place is an "accomplished" rap artist transitioning from Rap to rock so when I heard that famous rap artist Li' Wayne was putting out a traditional rock album I had to hit the web to see what I could find. I found one credible file on Youtube of "Prom queen" from Lil' Wayne but to be honest, I could only get through about 50 seconds of it before I got bored and turned it off.
If what I heard was the actual cut that's going to be on the album Mr. Wayne really needs an education on what "rock" really is. Overly sampled vocals, hip hp beats behind a think guitar track does not make a rock song.
Now i know my limitations. I'd never attempt to record a hip hop track or go "country" because its not who I am. If he's bored of writing rap songs then he should write rock but don't just throw in a guitar track and call it rock. Mr. Wayne should go and listen to some Body Count or even the sound track to Judgement night. Both of which will show him what a rap artist can do with real rock music.

The High End Of Low

Manson has just announced the title of his new album and it will be called, "The high End Of Low." I didn't grow up as a Manson fan at all but got into him a bit later in life. John 5 is one of the best guitar players I've ever heard that there was a noticeable difference in Manson's music when he departed from the band. Gone was the guitar heavy riff driven songs like "the Beautiful People" and in were the droning songs like "If I was your vampire." The newer stuff sounding like rejected songs from Type O Negative.
So the announcement leaves me wondering if it will be another post John 5 album or will Manson go back to his roots with provocative edgy lyrical statements or will he put out another snooze fest like the last album? I couldn't find who the line up is on the new album on his MySpace page but I'm hopeful Manson finds his way back to the world of controversy and gets out of the market for writing love songs to his supermodel wife.
Daily Deadly Axe "Brian Setzer"

Into swing? Bog bodied electric hollow bodies? Flashy paint jobs of the 60s? Well, why would you look any further than Gretsch Guitars? You wouldn't and that's why the Brian Setzer Black Phoenix is today's Deadly Daily Axe! It may look like a run of the mill jazz box but it's built to Brian's specs and comes equipped with TV Jones pickups. If a big ol' fat jazz box is going to be accepted into the DDA then it should belong to the best man for the job and anyone in to twang style swing will be the first to admit that Brian is that man!
CC at number 66 on billboard charts

Yes, Cannibal Corpse's newly released "Evisceration Plague" hit the billboard charts at number 66. Well they are clearly not every one's cup of tea, as one of the originators of death metal they have managed to survive while many from the golden generation of death have ceased to exist. Not only are they looked at as the forefathers of death metal the new album has some of the tightest rhythm tracks and even some of the best vocals I've ever heard on a CC album. It's a must have for any dedicated fan and a great first buy for someone looking to experiment in the death metal market. Go check it out on iTunes!

Me love you long time!

Sorry for the "Full metal jacket" reference but we all remember those old time Japanese guitars that flooded the market in the late 70's. Some of them were better than the American counter parts but unfortunately the overwhelming majority of them would be an afterthought had we all not made our bones on those horrible playing guitars.
If you are one of the fortunate ones that had a Greco Les Paul copy then you surely know what you have (or had.) However, if you are like me and you had a no name guitar that you'd like to find more about or just find for sale again for old time sake then guitarsjapan.com is a good spot to check out. This site is't like cheesieguitars.com becuase you can actually find playable examples of early era Japan made axes.
Daily Deadly Axe "Airline"

Every once in a while I get on a retro kick and I want to buy something from the old Danelectro or Tesco era. I've always admired Eastwood guitars for their ornate designs and creativity. Not only that, I'm a huge sucker for vintage seafoam green on guitars. I think it's just one of the most kick-ass colors around. If they had this in a fixed tail, I'd be all over it!

Daily Deadly axe "Tyton"

This Evil Guitars "Tyton" is a cool example of the retro 80's vibe that we have been seeing pop up over the last couple of years. This particular model reminds me of the Ibanez Xiphos model that came out about two years ago. I personally love bot on guitars as they are infanately ajustable and cheaper to repair. Contrary to popular misconception a bolt on does not suffer from sustain loss but it does offer a lot of advantages.
If this model came in a gunslinger (one pickup) fixed bridge model (with a possible reverse headstock) I'd welcome it into my humble collection. I might just get one after my current purchase is complete

Daily Deadly Axe "Bloody BVi"

Today's DDA is a custom painted Moser BVi. BVi stands for Bastard V import which means it's not a custom built Moser but it has been given a custom paint job ordered by the Mser Custom Shop. I had my eye on this guitar for my personal clooection for a while but then it sold. The Moser import guitars are high quality and are very popular. That blood dripping finish is just freaking awesome!

Daily Deadly Axe "Vex Deluxe"

Today's DDA is a new offering from Michael Kelly guitars called the Vex Deluxe. As I've said before, you can't buy quality better than Michael Kelly. They represent what is best about overseas manufacturers. High quality at a price that won't kill you. This is MK's first stab at S shaped guitars and all indication are, they are great guitars. The one pictured is flat black but they have a lot of these guitars with highly figured tops! They have also listed their new 2009 product catalogue for download on their website. Check it out, nice high quality catalogue.

World's smallest tube amp

For a little less than 5 bills you can own the Nano head from Z. Vex Amps. I happened on this company on one of my various EBay searches and just had to check out the website. It's quite an interesting little bugger. I don't know if it's a gig ready amplifier but the video is really cool. This guy can actually power a 4x12 cab! That's respectable!
Daily Deadly Axe "D-licious"

I'm always a fan of custom Luther guitars. Highly expensive but well worth the money if your luthier is worth his salt! Today's DDA is the Northstar D-Licious which was is a recently completed build from Luther Peter Naglitsch. I love this guitar and it's vintage "Rick" feel. The upper horn is a deal maker for me. Some of the great things about this axe are; custom ingraved wooden pickup covers, custom inlay, 13 ply neck, earvanna nut, Grover tuners with Hipshot extender and Hipshot baby grand bridge. I also love the finish. Great colors to complement this build. If it wasn't for my current guitar on order i'd be putting in for one of these!
This guitar is currently up for vote at the project guitar forum. A tue winner if you ask me!

Dealing with dealers
Oh yes, the ongoing saga continues! I went to Dave Phillips to put another 5 bills down on my ESP signature series guitar and when they hand me my receipt the remaining balance is over $4,000. I just about shit myself! My initial down payment was $470 and I added another $500 so I should be right around $1000 left to pay. I really want to have it paid off before it arrives so I don't have to worry about cash when I find out it's arrived. I can just go get it!
So, the sales guy goes to his manager to figure it out. I was quoted $1899.99 plus tax so I'm a bit concerned! I come to find out that their purchaser figured I wanted two of them. Well not really. From what I was told they put the order in before ESP had a part number assigned to the model. When they assigned a model number it triggered a second guitar on my tab. All was cleared up quickly but this just goes to show that you have to keep an eye on these guys. That could have slowed my order down or screwed something else up
If you think you guy is better... don't! That's when things get screwed up. Plan for the best, expect the worst!
Plant wins grammy

Well, it wasn't with Led Zep but Plant did win a Grammy this year. It was with Alison Krauss! Yes, she is a folk country artist and Plant is the king of the cryptic! Seems like an odd couple indeed but who could blame him. She is...errr, I mean country is hot and the demographic proved to be a winner for the once...spellbinding rocker.
Metallica also puled in a Grammy for "My Apocalypse" and Greenday released the name of their new album and the Boss pulled one in as well. Not a bad day for legendary singers, metal bands and rock gods!
Daily Deadly Axe "Jackson graveyard"

I've always thought that this Jackson paint job was one of the coolest out there. It's a very eerie depiction of a grave yard. Total metal and totally deadly for sure. Jackson guitars really represent nice quality at a id range price. I like Jackson over the Jackson/Charvel stuff any day and I'd be proud to hang this one on my wall o' death!

"Essential Cavalera"

Have you ever tried to take 19 Discs, music spanning from 1985-2009 and try to pick your favorite tunes? It's harder than you think especially when that collection of music happens to be your all time favorite musician. Well, that's what I've done. It has become a hassle to carry around 20 discs of music so I've complied my "best of" or "must have" tracks from the (still ongoing) music catalog of one Max Cavalera. He has fronted some of the best metal bands in history. Sepultura, Soulfly, NailBomb and several side projects like Cavalera Conspiracy and Probot. So if iTunes can do it then I can do it.
Introducing my two disc "Essential Cavalera"

New pictures on the web
Ahhh, my dream guitar has finally shown up in the hands of the man that has his signature on the headstock. When waiting several months for a new axe you routinely look to fuel the fire of desire! As of this morning I had not seen the new ESP Cavalera AX being played by the man himself. Those days are gone! This picture was taken during his current overseas tour. I guess I will be the second person to own one :)
5 weeks and counting (I hope!)
Daily Deadly Axe "Moolon Narcis"

Truly a metal axe from the other side of the world! It’s a pretty traditional shape but the uniqueness is the metal top with the engravings. Quite a striking instrument that would really stand out as a conversation piece. I don’t know much about Mooloon but their quality looks to be top of the line and I know I would be interesting in giving this guitar a run for it’s money!
Axl will be Axl
It’s also funny to see that Axl still refuses to let things die. He seems to remember the old GNR era a bit differently than the rest of the world. If Slash was such a horrible person then why was it Axl who walked out on stadiums right in the middle of a show or refuse to ever go on? Why was it Axl that ran his mouth at every corner? Appetite for destruction was one of the best albums of all times but Axl Rose is one of the worst front men of all times.
Spinal Tap is back!

Ever thought of local PPV concerts?

Does your unsigned band have a great Myspace music or Facebook following but you are having trouble getting people out to the local clubs to see your ground breaking act? If so you are like thousands of other bands that have been able to use the internet to gain fans but still struggle for local recognition.
Well I bet you didn't know you could do live event video streaming from your show to your fans on the internet. I also bet you didnt know that it could be set up as a Pay Per view webcast that could actually put money in your pocket! It's as simple as contacting a 3rd party vendor to set everything up and it's truely accssable and affordable to the average band. Think about it. If you have a few hundred people on your online accounts that claim to be fans then it's likely that a portion of those fans would shell out $5.00-$10.00 to see a high quality concert of their new favorite unsugned talent. It's worth checking out since it's getting harder and harder to make money in the music business.

Daily Deadly Axe "Dawn of the dead"

Today's Daily Deadly axe gives new meaning to the phrase "dead." A bone chilling zombie apocalyptic guitar from Schecter that hearkens back to the days of the dawn. Anyone who is into horror or zombie flicks should love this monster of a guitar but for a sale price of $3,889.00 this guitar will be for a fan a bit more dedicated than I am. However, themed guitars like this are cool collection pieces.
The Boss is fired!
How about next year we see a little bit of a harder edge: Maybe Megadeath and Metallica share the stage? LOL
As for the game, it really turned out to be a great one that kept pace with the last two that we had. One of the best 4th quarters in recent history. Both teams gave it their all and both teams were obviously deserving to be there.
